James (he/him) I am a current BFA Musical Theatre Pre-Medicine student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
I was born just a couple of hours south of Los Angeles, CA but grew up in Jacksonville, AL. I am also the first generation of my family to be born in the US! Both of my parents are from the Philippines so naturally, I have a lot of Pinoy Pride!
Outside of Musical Theatre, I am an Air Force ROTC cadet, a pilot, a bartender, and a vaccine researcher. After graduation, I plan on commissioning into the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant while also pursuing my dream of going to medical school and becoming an ophthalmologist.
I have always had a passion for Musical Theatre and originally, I wanted to inspire hope and help others by telling stories (especially POC stories) that needed to be told. As my journey changed, I found that I also have a passion for medicine. Because of this, I now get to use the tools and training of both walks of life To Help and inspire hope in my future patients!
One of the teachings of my grandfather that I take with me everywhere through life is, ”Make Friends in All Places.” Which to me means, no matter where you go or what you do, make friends. You never know when making that connection will help you down the line :)
The other quote from my grandfather that I live by is, “Pakitaa ang imong maayong laki.” Which directly translates to “show your good man,” but means “show that you are an honorable man.” This quote, paired with the core values of being a United States Airman, reminds me to always place integrity first, serve others before myself, and to strive for excellence in every endeavor I attempt.
